   We are searching for a strong leader who can successfully renvigorate our compete culture, and drive our focus on unit market share growth. This mission critical, cross-organizational senior leadership role will ensure that we bring together all our assets from around the company to successfully compete and grow market share through a consistent, comprehensive, and agile field operating model.    The CMSG Lead is the champion for competing to win share, and the point person for competitive strategy in the subsidiary.  This individual will partner with our field Business Group and Market Segment Leadership Teams to proactively define competitive priorities, driving the Subsidiary Compete rhythm of the business, and land competitive strategies that allow us to compete more effectively, and grow unit market share across all of our workloads, platforms, and solution areas. This leader will ensure that we provide a clearly differentiated value proposition in each competitive scenario, and effectively position the value of commercial software vs. the competition. We look to this leader to establish the cross-organizational business practices that allow us to detect competitive trends and market opportunities earlier in their respective lifecycles, and respond to them with greater agility, precision, and insight.    Competitive priorities include winning share in the PC OS, Server OS, Database, Productivity Suites, Hosting, E-mail, Unified Communications, CRM, Virtualization, Browser, Developer Tools, and Digital Advertising categories. We will deliver world-class competitive capacity in each market, and drive positive perception and preference through our citizenship efforts, and our software developer community sponsorship activities.    As a direct report of the Subsidiary BMO Director, the CMSG Lead must possess excellent executive communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively interface with employees, partners, and customers of all levels.  Strong people management skills are preferred.  The ability to proactively work and have a positive influence across diverse internal and external constituents is required.  In addition, the ideal candidate should possess a strong record of delivering high levels of customer and employee satisfaction results.   Responsibilities of the Area CMSG Lead: 1.      Identifies and pursues market-making share gain opportunities, proactively procuring and leveraging all Sub/Area/Corp resources to drive strategic competitive wins and increase market share 2.      Understands the local competitive ecosystem including how the bits are procured, delivered, installed, and supported 3.      Leads the Subsidiary Compete Council including the Leadership Team members across BG and Market Segment Leads.  4.      Leads the Subsidiary Compete Team including OpenSource Community Lead (CSI), Security & Privacy Lead, and the Interoperability Lead, as well as other Compete v-team members such as: Citizenship Lead, National Technology Officer, National Standards Officer, and Chief Security Advisor etc.  5.      Leads the Compete Council to determine the Subsidiary Compete and Market Intelligence Priorities  6.      Drives the Compete culture and Readiness within the Subsidiary e.g. Rewards, Recognition, Compete Community Events, etc. 7.      Leads the Compete Rhythm of the Business including analysis and reporting of: compete plan execution, wins & losses, sales pipeline, escalations, PR activities, etc… 8.      Drives the localization and adoption of Corp Compete Playbooks. Validates compete marketing and resource plans. 9.      Personally leads competitive strategies that span the Segments / BGs and don’t have explicit BG ownership e.g. ES, S+S 10.   Drives competitive escalations for deals in motion through partnership with CompHot and other global compete assets 11.   Ensures that strategies are in place with clear accountabilities to achieve all Compete Scorecard metrics 12.   Provides competitive insights and recommended strategies through Monthly/Quarterly/Mid-Year reviews etc. 13.   Attends competitive industry forums in respective Areas/Subs to represent Microsoft as a speaker, and to ensure that we are kept abreast of competitive trends 14.   Defines the competitive partner strategy within the Field in coordination with the marketing segments 15.   Develops and manages an early warning systems for Area/Sub competitive activities       Summary of Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of software industry business experience at material scale
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, MBA or related master’s degree preferred

  • Strong partner business model, marketing campaign development, and sales experience. 
  • Business case and plan development, complex project development and management, market understanding (customer and competitive trends), deep analysis skills. 
  • Strong knowledge of MS licensing policies. 
  • Strong interpersonal communications and cross-group collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software industry including key competitors and key competitive drivers
